Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged authorities to expedite and expand the privatisation of electricity distribution companies (Discos) to improve the country’s power sector performance and reduce financial losses.
During a high-level meeting, the prime minister stressed the importance of completing the privatisation process without delay, saying reforms in the energy sector are essential for economic stability and better public services.
Officials briefed the meeting on the current status of the privatisation programme and ongoing efforts to attract private investment in power distribution companies. The government believes the move will help reduce circular debt, improve operational efficiency, and ensure better electricity supply to consumers.
PM Shehbaz Sharif asked the relevant departments to be transparent throughout the process and to fully protect consumers’ interests while implementing the reforms.
