KARACHI:
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has rejected claims of an extremely cold or record-breaking winter, saying that current weather data indicates a moderate season across the country.
According to the PMD, oceanic and atmospheric patterns linked to La Niña do not support predictions of severe cold in Sindh or other regions. Officials said that forecasts prepared with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) show temperatures likely to stay slightly above normal, with chances of marginally higher rainfall.
The department added that a weak to moderate La Niña over the Pacific Ocean usually limits the strength of winter systems in Pakistan, reducing rainfall and snowfall in northern areas while keeping conditions relatively mild in the plains.
The PMD advised citizens to rely only on official updates and warned that spreading unverified weather information could cause unnecessary panic.
