The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has rejected MBBS degrees from substandard colleges in Central Asia, China, and Eastern Europe.
It has announced the refund of exam fees to all foreign medical graduates and barred all public and private institutions from offering house jobs and internships to foreign medical graduates.
Only degrees from colleges recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) will be accepted. Foreign medical colleges can also directly affiliate with PMDC.
In the future, only MBBS degrees from colleges recognized by ECFMG or PMDC will be accepted.
With this decision, the scope of MBBS from Central Asia, China, and Eastern Europe has ended.
Even previously graduated foreign medical students are now barred from PMDC registration, leaving hundreds of students studying in Central Asia, China, Eastern Europe, and Russia with uncertain futures.
