Another case of polio has been reported in Pakistan. A one year old child from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been affected by the polio virus, bringing the total number of polio cases in the country this year to 23.
The affected child belongs to Union Council Ghari in the Kandar Tehsil of Torghar district. With this latest case, the number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 19 this year.
The recent anti polio campaign in the country concluded on October 19, with a target to vaccinate 45 million children against the virus.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that polio virus remains present in environmental samples collected from various parts of the country. The National Institute of Health Laboratory received samples from 127 locations nationwide, out of which 44 tested positive, while 81 locations showed no traces of the virus.
