For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the Punjab government is starting a major health program to protect girls from cervical cancer.

In a meeting led by Punjab’s Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir and Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, it was decided that this program will start in November.

According to Samaa TV, the goal is to vaccinate 8 million girls between the ages of 9 and 14 in schools across Punjab, so they are protected from this dangerous disease in the future.

The campaign will not only cover government schools, but also include private schools and madrasas (religious schools). Health teams will go to the schools themselves to give the vaccine to the students.

To make sure the campaign is successful and well-organized, a special working group will also be created to manage and monitor everything.
