Former US President Barack Obama has criticised President Donald Trump over his policies on Iran, rising consumer prices and the administration’s handling of government affairs as he campaigned for Democratic candidates ahead of the US midterm elections.

Speaking at campaign rallies in Ohio and Michigan on Saturday, Obama urged voters to support Democratic candidates in the November 3 elections, which will determine control of the US Congress for the remainder of Trump’s term.

In Cleveland, Ohio, Obama accused the Trump administration of creating what he described as chaos, cruelty, corruption and incompetence. He said the elections offered voters an opportunity to hold the government accountable.

Obama also criticised Trump’s policy on Iran, arguing that the conflict had contributed to rising energy costs and created economic uncertainty. He described the war as unnecessary and questioned the administration’s approach to the situation.

The former president also blamed the administration’s decisions for increasing the cost of living, saying that many Americans were struggling with higher prices.

During his speeches, Obama mocked Trump’s White House renovation projects, criticising their design and cost. He also questioned the administration’s priorities and accused Republican leaders of failing to hold the president accountable.

In Michigan, Obama campaigned for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and called on voters to participate in the upcoming elections. He urged supporters to use their votes to demand greater accountability from the government.

Meanwhile, Trump defended his administration’s policies at a rally in Georgia, highlighting its immigration and tariff measures and expressing confidence in the country’s economic direction.

The November 3 midterm elections are expected to play a significant role in determining the balance of power in Congress and could affect the implementation of the president’s domestic and foreign policies.
