A technical fault in the power system at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the largest hospital under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, has severely affected operations in various departments due to an ongoing fault persisting for several days.
According to sources, multiple incubators and ventilators in the children’s ward have shut down, causing serious difficulties for newborn babies.
Sources said that 15 out of 21 incubators are non functional, while children in intensive care are being sent back. Several pieces of electrically operated medical equipment have malfunctioned over the past few days.
According to the hospital administration, electricity supply from K Electric is available to the hospital, but an internal technical fault has caused the disruption.
Director Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Faisal Samdani said the technical power fault has been present since yesterday and repair work is underway. Efforts are being made to complete the repair work today and restore electricity.
In this regard, a spokesperson for K Electric said the fault at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital is of an internal nature and has no connection with K Electric’s infrastructure.
The K Electric spokesperson added that power supply to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital is continuing as normal.
