Islamabad — The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has rejected the proposal to amend the National Finance Commission (NFC) formula under the 27th Constitutional Amendment, terming it against the spirit of provincial autonomy.
According to party sources, the PPP leadership believes that any attempt to alter the existing NFC distribution formula would undermine the rights of the provinces and disturb the financial balance defined in the Constitution.
During internal discussions, senior PPP members reiterated that the current NFC Award was achieved after years of consensus-building and represents a fair distribution of national resources. The party has urged the federal government to focus instead on improving revenue collection rather than revising provincial shares.
Sources also indicate that the PPP plans to raise the issue in Parliament and engage other opposition parties to build pressure against any move that could affect provincial rights.
