ISLAMABAD, October 13, 2026: President Asif Ali Zardari has urged European countries to provide more legal migration opportunities for Pakistani workers and professionals, stressing the need for safer and more structured pathways to employment abroad.
The president made these remarks during a meeting with European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
According to an official statement, President Zardari said Pakistan’s efforts to curb illegal migration should be accompanied by expanded legal opportunities, particularly for skilled workers and professionals.
He highlighted the Pakistan-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue as an important platform for matching Pakistan’s workforce with Europe’s labour-market needs.
The president also welcomed the expansion of the European Union’s Talent Partnerships framework and called for more opportunities through circular migration, which allows workers to move between their home country and a destination country for employment.
He further proposed establishing a European Legal Gateway Office in Pakistan to help facilitate legal migration and improve cooperation between the two sides.
The discussions also covered efforts to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The initiative aims to promote safe migration, create employment opportunities and strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union.
