Another significant development has emerged in the health sector under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Punjab, as the process of fully digitizing the medicine supply chain has been launched through the Punjab Drug Distribution Management System (PDDMS).
Under this system, a comprehensive digital tracking mechanism has been introduced for the first time, covering the entire process from medicine manufacturing to retail pharmacies. The objective is to ensure the availability of quality, safe, and authentic medicines for the public.
Provincial Minister for Health and Population Khawaja Imran Nazir attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Secretary Health and Population Nadia Saqib, Special Secretary Drugs Control Captain (R) Aurangzeb, DG Drug Control Muhammad Suhail, the Chief Drug Controller, Director DTL, and representatives of pharmaceutical companies and distributors also participated in the event.
Addressing the ceremony, Khawaja Imran Nazir said that the Punjab Drug Distribution Management System will enable effective monitoring of counterfeit and substandard medicines, while also allowing real time monitoring of the purchase, sale, distribution, and availability of medicines.
He stated that the new system will help identify medicine shortages, hoarding, and black marketing in a timely manner. An online province wide mechanism is also being introduced for the recall of substandard medicines from the market.
The provincial health minister said that the Punjab government is taking practical steps to make the medicine management system more transparent, efficient, and public friendly through the use of modern technology.
