Important steps are being taken in Punjab to ensure safe blood transfusion, while a decision has been made to tighten the monitoring of blood banks.
According to sources, vigilance teams will be formed to ensure implementation of SOPs.
Sources said that this announcement was made during a meeting held at the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company, which was chaired by Minister for Specialized Healthcare Khawaja Salman Rafique. Parliamentary Secretary Syed Ziaullah Shah, Dr Farhan, and Dr Masoom also attended the meeting.
The minister stated that the capacity for safe blood transfusion is being increased. So far, 430,569 individuals have been screened, while 390,080 individuals have been provided genetic counseling.
He added that thalassemia screening will be further promoted to prevent the spread of the disease.
