LAHORE — Acting on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a large-scale crackdown against profiteers continued across the province, leading to fines on 11,275 violators and the arrest of 182 individuals within the past 24 hours.
According to a spokesperson for the Price Control Department, authorities inspected over 371,000 locations to monitor prices and ensure adherence to official rate lists. Four cases were registered against repeat offenders, according to Urdu Point.
The inspections included 27,500 flour sale points where 643 fines were imposed and 13 people were arrested. Similarly, at 19,037 chicken shops, 634 violators were fined and 15 arrested. Checks at 7,180 hotels and tandoors led to 463 fines and 12 arrests, while 13,930 sugar-selling outlets were inspected, resulting in 843 fines and 14 arrests.
The spokesperson emphasized that price control magistrates and district administrations were carrying out daily operations across all districts under the Chief Minister’s special directions to maintain price stability and safeguard consumer rights.
Citizens were encouraged to use the “Qeemat App” to verify daily official prices and report overcharging, as public cooperation remains vital in supporting the government’s efforts to ensure fair market practices and transparency.
