Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has fulfilled another promise by initiating the establishment of cath labs in 16 districts of Punjab to provide treatment for heart patients.
For the first time, angioplasty services will begin at the district level in public hospitals across Punjab. Cath labs will be set up in Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Kasur, Jhang, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, and Layyah. Additional labs will also be established in Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad.
On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the recruitment of doctors and staff for these cath labs has already started. Services of top international cardiologists have been sought, and doctors with FCPS, MD, or American Board of Cardiology diplomas will be appointed at District Headquarters Hospitals.
The Chief Minister has instructed that only the best cardiologists be hired for DHQ hospitals. The Directorate General of Health Services Punjab has begun the recruitment process for cardiologists, medical officers, nurses, and technologists.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that with the establishment of cath labs in the districts, heart patients will no longer need to travel to major cities for angioplasty. The labs will be built in phases, ensuring timely relief for patients. She emphasized that each district cath lab will have not only top-quality doctors but also well-trained staff, ensuring that patients receive the best possible treatment at their doorstep.
