The Punjab government has decided to create a comprehensive digital database of all mosques across the province, assigning the project to the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Under this initiative, PITB has begun the mapping process for mosques belonging to all religious denominations.
According to officials, the project involves upgrading the mosque data that was originally compiled in 2015 to ensure that the current database is accurate, modern, and complete. A total of 66,577 mosques representing various sects will be linked to the PITB’s system as part of this effort.
Authorities believe that digitizing and mapping mosque data will improve administrative efficiency, facilitate better planning, and ensure transparency in religious infrastructure management across Punjab.
