The Punjab government has launched a new electric bus service in Rawalpindi, introducing low-fare, eco-friendly transport for the city. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the service on Wednesday.
The electric buses offer air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, charging ports, wheelchair access, and a dedicated women’s compartment. The fare is set at Rs. 20, while women, senior citizens, and children with special needs can travel free of cost.
Officials stated that the project is part of a wider development plan for Rawalpindi, which includes signal-free corridors, new flyovers, and major road upgrades. Significant funds have been allocated to improve the city’s transport infrastructure.
The chief minister also highlighted ongoing enhancements in healthcare, education, and social welfare, including new hospitals and schools under construction. She added that crime in Punjab has dropped by 70 percent as efforts to strengthen public safety continue.
