The Punjab School Education Department has introduced a new schedule for teacher promotions, making it mandatory for districts to hold Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings four times a year. The move is aimed at ensuring that promotion cases are processed regularly and without unnecessary delays.

Under the new schedule, DPC meetings will be held during the first week of January, April, July and October every year. The School Information System (SIS) portal will also be opened four times annually to facilitate the promotion process.

According to the prescribed timeline, teachers and employees eligible for promotion will be tagged on the SIS during the third week of the relevant month, while the actualisation process for promotions will begin in the fourth week. This is intended to create a fixed and transparent timeline for completing promotion cases.

The Education Department has made it clear that holding the four promotion meetings each year is mandatory. Officers who fail to conduct the meetings according to the approved schedule may face strict disciplinary action.

The performance of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs) will also be reviewed based on how efficiently and promptly they dispose of promotion cases.

The revised system is expected to benefit a large number of government school teachers by reducing delays in career progression and ensuring that eligible employees receive timely consideration for promotion.

The Punjab government has also linked the new system with greater administrative accountability, requiring education officials to follow the prescribed schedule and complete promotion-related procedures within the designated timeframes
