Rawalpindi police have arrested a robbery suspect involved in snatching earrings and a purse from an elderly woman in Gujar Khan, officials said.
According to police, the suspect was apprehended in an injured condition during a checkpoint operation a day after the incident. The City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi had taken notice of the crime and directed authorities to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused.
Police officials stated that during the operation, the suspect opened fire while riding a motorcycle. A shot discharged from his own weapon reportedly struck his hand, leaving him injured. During interrogation, the accused confessed to snatching a purse and forcibly removing gold earrings from an elderly woman in the Gujar Khan area.
Police recovered the stolen gold earrings, Rs20,000 in cash, a stolen motorcycle, and a weapon from the suspect. He was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
On the instructions of the CPO Rawalpindi, senior police officers later visited the victim’s residence and returned the recovered valuables to her. The CPO praised the police team for the arrest and recovery, while the elderly woman expressed gratitude to the police for swift action.
