LONDON — American R&B singer Chris Brown has officially entered a guilty plea to a charge of affray at Southwark Crown Court, bringing an end to a protracted legal saga in the United Kingdom. The plea agreement, entered on July 24, allows the 37-year-old artist and his co-defendant, 40-year-old vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, to avoid a lengthy criminal trial previously scheduled for October. In exchange for admitting to the public order offense, prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed they will formally drop more severe charges, including attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

The legal case stems from a high-profile altercation on February 19, 2023, at Tape, an exclusive private members’ club in Mayfair, London, following Brown’s concert in Wales. According to court filings, a violent dispute broke out involving Brown, Akinlolu, and music producer Abraham Diaw, leaving Diaw with head and knee injuries that required hospital treatment. Under UK law, affray involves using or threatening unlawful violence in a manner that causes those present to fear for their safety, carrying a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment. Brown, who was previously detained in Manchester in May 2025 and released on a £5 million bail security fee, is now scheduled alongside Akinlolu to receive his final sentence on October 26, 2026. Legal analysts expect the court to heavily factor the early plea resolution into the ultimate penalty.
