India’s star batter Rohit Sharma has officially rewritten the record books, surpassing former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for the most sixes in ODI cricket during the ongoing clash against South Africa in Ranchi.

Rohit entered the match needing three sixes to claim the top spot — and the 38-year-old achieved the milestone with complete authority in his 277th ODI appearance.

The Indian skipper smashed two consecutive sixes off spinner Subrayen in the 14th over, narrowing the gap before sealing the record with a signature hook shot off Marco Jansen in the 19th over, sending the ball over long leg to go past Afridi.

With this achievement, Rohit now stands alone at the top of ODI six-hitters:

Most Sixes in ODIs:

  • Rohit Sharma (IND): 352 sixes
  • Shahid Afridi (PAK): 351 sixes
  • Chris Gayle (WI): 331 sixes
  • Sanath Jayasuriya (SL): 270 sixes
  • MS Dhoni (IND): 229 sixes

Rohit’s innings ended on 57 runs off 51 balls, featuring five fours and three sixes. At the time of this report, India were firmly in control at 183-2 in 26 overs, with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 85. Ruturaj Gaikwad had earlier fallen for 8 off 12 balls.
