Makkah/Riyadh:
Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has issued a high-level weather alert today, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms and possible flash flooding across several regions of the Kingdom, including the Makkah region. Authorities have urged residents, travelers and pilgrims to remain cautious and avoid low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding.
According to the advisory, unstable weather conditions are expected to intensify during the day, with powerful wind gusts likely to raise dust in open areas and reduce visibility on highways. Parts of the coastal and mountainous zones near Makkah, Jeddah and surrounding governorates are considered at higher risk due to their geographic exposure.
Saudi Civil Defense teams have been placed on high readiness, while emergency services have been instructed to respond immediately to any weather-related incidents. Residents have been advised to stay indoors during peak storm activity, secure loose objects, and avoid crossing water-filled roads or valleys.
Meteorologists explain that the current system is the result of seasonal atmospheric changes affecting western Saudi Arabia, creating conditions suitable for violent storms, hail, and sudden downpours. Such systems can develop rapidly and cause short-notice disruptions.
The warning comes as thousands of pilgrims continue to visit the holy city, prompting authorities to emphasize strict adherence to safety guidelines. Officials have reassured that continuous monitoring is underway and updated advisories will be issued if the situation changes.
