RIYADH  Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Sheikh, has directed all mosque preachers across the Kingdom to dedicate this Friday’s sermon to the issue of greed and the sharp rise in rental prices.

According to a report by Saudi Gazette, the move aligns with the initiatives of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who aims to bring greater regulation and balance to the real estate sector. The overarching goal is to ensure stability in the housing market and make homes more affordable for citizens and residents alike.

Sheikh Al-Sheikh emphasized that Friday’s sermons should highlight the noble objectives behind the Crown Prince’s reforms, which focus on promoting social and psychological stability particularly for families facing the burden of soaring rent costs.

The minister’s directive calls on imams to warn against greed and excessive pursuit of profit, both of which are condemned in Islamic teachings. He cautioned that unreasonable rent hikes not only harm society but also restrict people’s ability to make a decent living.

Sheikh Al-Sheikh urged property owners to fear Allah, show compassion and leniency in their dealings with tenants, and seek divine reward by making things easier for those struggling financially.
