KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has admitted a petition filed by transgender doctor Sarah Gill challenging the non-issuance of her Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) registration and license. The case concerns the alleged delay by the PMDC in processing her medical registration despite the submission of a formal request.
The constitutional bench approved an urgent hearing request and directed that the matter be fixed for hearing after the winter recess. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel informed the court that although an application had been submitted to the PMDC, no substantive response had been provided.
When asked by the bench what “no response” meant, the lawyer clarified that the PMDC had not issued any concrete reply regarding the verification or registration of the petitioner’s graduation degree.
The counsel highlighted that the petitioner completed her MBBS in 2021 from Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC). Since then, JMDC has been transformed into Sohail University, which was previously affiliated with Karachi University. According to the petition, the institutional changes have prevented Dr. Sarah Gill from accessing the PMDC portal, resulting in delays in initiating and completing her registration process.
The court took note of the submissions and will formally hear the matter after the winter break.
