Dengue Outbreak in Sindh: Government Significantly Reduces Diagnostic Test Prices

The Sindh Health Department has released a report regarding confirmed dengue cases across the province. According to the report, a total of 5,742 dengue tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, out of which 1,558 came back positive.

‎In Karachi Division, 4,010 tests were conducted and 758 cases were confirmed, while in Hyderabad Division, 1,732 tests were carried out and 800 cases were reported.

‎During the past 24 hours, 81 new patients were admitted to government hospitals across the province, while 68 new patients were admitted to private hospitals.

‎Similarly, during the same period, 58 patients were discharged from government hospitals and 25 from private hospitals after recovery.

‎Two deaths were reported from government hospitals in the last 24 hours.

‎Beds Allocated for Patients in Government and Private Hospitals:

‎According to the report, currently, 201 patients are admitted in government hospitals across Sindh, while 180 patients are admitted in private hospitals.

‎In Karachi government hospitals, 251 beds have been allocated for dengue patients, 116 in Hyderabad, and 528 in other parts of Sindh, making a total of 895 beds across the province.

‎In private hospitals, 132 beds in Karachi, 161 in Hyderabad, and 36 in other parts of Sindh have been allocated, totaling 329 beds across the province.

‎Number of Testing Laboratories:

‎Sindh Health Secretary Rehan Baloch stated that 36 laboratories in Karachi are conducting dengue testing 13 government and 23 private labs.

‎In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are active in dengue testing, including 7 government and 11 private labs. So far this month, 2,090 confirmed dengue cases have been reported across the province.

‎During the year 2025, the total number of dengue cases has reached 2,735. This month alone, Karachi Division has reported 1,005 cases, Hyderabad Division 938, Mirpurkhas Division 114, Sukkur Division 13, Shaheed Benazirabad Division 14, and Larkana Division 6 cases.

‎Significant Reduction in Test Prices:

‎Secretary Rehan Baloch assured that the government is taking all possible steps to provide relief to the public. The prices of dengue, malaria, and CBC tests have been significantly reduced, and the new rates have been implemented.

‎He stated that the malaria test price has been reduced from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 600, the dengue test from Rs. 3,450 to Rs. 1,100, the dengue combo test from Rs. 4,150 to Rs. 1,500, and the follow up CBC test from Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 500.

‎Government Measures:

‎Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho said that the Health Department is monitoring all dengue cases. She appealed to the public not to believe in any unverified news or social media rumors.

‎She added that the Sindh government is working seriously on the anti dengue campaign across the province. Orders have been issued for fumigation, spraying, and improvement of the drainage system in all districts. Deputy Commissioners and district health officers have been instructed to ensure that no stagnant water remains in any area, as it is the main cause of mosquito breeding.
