Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has appointed Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan as the new Grand Mufti of the Kingdom through a royal decree issued on Wednesday. The appointment followed a recommendation by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
Sheikh Al-Fawzan will also serve as Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars and President of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, the official body responsible for religious edicts in the Kingdom.
A prominent scholar known for his long-standing service on the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh Al-Fawzan has authored numerous works on Islamic jurisprudence and faith, earning wide respect across the Muslim world.
He succeeds the late Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, who passed away on September 23 after serving as the Kingdom’s Grand Mufti for more than two decades
