A recent study has revealed that by adopting a very simple habit, a person can significantly reduce the risk of developing at least 13 different types of cancer.
It is commonly observed that cancer is regarded as a dangerous and serious disease that is not only life threatening but also has numerous causes. However, a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that the habit of daily walking reduces the risk of developing 13 different types of cancer.
The study analyzed data from 85,000 individuals. Participants were asked to wear wrist trackers for a week to collect data on their physical activity. Their health was then monitored for an average of six years, during which more than 2,600 individuals were diagnosed with one of 13 different types of cancer.
The study found that all types of physical activity, even slow paced walking, significantly reduce the risk of developing these 13 types of cancer. The more physically active a person is, the greater the reduction in risk.
According to the study, walking 5,000 or more steps daily begins to lower the risk of cancer, while walking 7,000 steps daily reduces the risk by an additional 11 percent compared to those who walk 5,000 steps. Similarly, walking 9,000 steps daily reduces the risk by up to 16 percent.
Researchers say that the more active you keep yourself, the more successful you will be in protecting yourself from cancer. Even light physical activities can help reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, with staying active being the key factor.
