Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has flatly rejected any suggestion of carving up the province, dismissing recent political rhetoric regarding the division of Sindh as “unacceptable.”

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, the Chief Minister framed the discourse as a distraction from the real issues facing the public. He maintained that the administrative boundaries of Sindh are settled and that any attempt to reopen the debate is a disservice to the people of the province.

“Sindh is a historical reality,” Shah told reporters. “Those who talk about dividing this land don’t understand its culture, its history, or the sentiment of its people. We aren’t going to entertain these fringe ideas.”

The statement comes on the heels of renewed murmurs from certain political circles suggesting that Sindh’s administrative structure is failing to deliver services to urban centers, particularly Karachi. Critics often point to crumbling infrastructure and governance gaps as reasons to reconsider the province’s current administrative model.

Shah’s administration, however, views these calls not as genuine governance critiques, but as politically motivated tactics designed to stir ethnic tensions. By taking a hard line, the Chief Minister is attempting to consolidate his political base and signal to the central government that any move toward bifurcation would be met with fierce provincial resistance.

Political analysts suggest that the timing of these calls is tied to the upcoming local government dynamics and broader power struggles within the coalition. However, the Chief Minister’s refusal to engage with the premise of a division suggests he plans to keep the focus strictly on provincial unity.

For now, the provincial government remains adamant: the map of Sindh is not up for negotiation. Whether this firm stance will quiet the debate or embolden his political opponents to push harder remains the question of the hour.
