KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially declared Monday, October 20, 2025, a public holiday across the province in connection with the Hindu community’s religious festival, Diwali.

According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department (SGA&CD), all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed on that day.

The statement said the decision was made to allow the Hindu community to celebrate Diwali  the festival of lights  with full religious enthusiasm and traditional spirit. The move reflects the Sindh government’s ongoing commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and showing respect for the cultural and religious traditions of all communities living in the province.

Diwali, one of the most important Hindu festivals, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Across Pakistan, especially in Sindh’s cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, Hindu families celebrate the day by decorating homes, temples, and streets with lamps and colorful lights.

Earlier, the Sindh government also announced that Hindu government employees and pensioners would receive their salaries and pensions in advance, before October 15, to help them prepare for the celebrations.
