In Karachi’s Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi, the ICU equipped with modern machines has been locked due to the unavailability of technical staff.
The hospital is facing serious challenges as, despite having 11 ventilator machines, the ICU remains non-functional because of staff shortages. These ventilators were purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the closure of the ICU, over 200 patients daily are forced to turn to private hospitals. Modern machines and ventilators worth millions are losing their utility while residents of nearby areas remain deprived of advanced medical facilities.
According to the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi, efforts are being made to activate the ICU like other departments of the hospital. However, technical staff is needed for all three shifts, and a summary for staff recruitment has already been sent to the Sindh Health Department.
