The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) is set to formally launch a full dialysis/lithotripsy centre at the newly acquired building of the former Regent Plaza on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
Currently, the SIUT Trust Hospital has 60 beds and daily dialysis sessions are being conducted. It is expected that this capacity will be increased to 200 sessions per day.
According to a hospital official, last year the hospital acquired a multi storey hotel building in the central part of the city to address the shortage of space at the existing facility, as the number of patients continues to grow.
SIUT began its journey in 1971 at Civil Hospital Karachi with just 8 beds.
Over the years, the hospital team has made remarkable progress and achieved several milestones, providing state of the art treatment facilities in urology, nephrology, hepatogastroenterology, paediatric urology, cardiology and, most notably, transplantation.
A press release stated that the hospital provides all treatment facilities completely free of cost and serves patients without any discrimination.
