Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are in force across Scotland, with the Met Office cautioning that travel could be disrupted throughout Tuesday and into Thursday.
An ice alert for the north and east Highlands is active until 10:00, while a second ice warning covering central and southern Scotland along with parts of northern England remains in effect until 12:00. A separate yellow warning for snow is in place for most areas north of Perth until 18:00, after the Highlands recorded their first snowfall of the winter last week.
Forecasters say 2 to 5cm of snow may fall at lower levels, with up to 10cm possible on higher ground. From 18:00 on Tuesday until 21:00 on Thursday, a wider snow-and-ice alert will apply to all of northern Scotland, including Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.
Eastern England also faces a yellow warning for snow and ice from 06:00 Wednesday until 18:00 Thursday, raising concerns over slippery surfaces and possible transport delays.
The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber and yellow cold-health alerts for northern England and the Midlands, warning that vulnerable groups may face increased risks.
