KARACHI: Tension gripped the city’s busy Tariq Road on Sunday when Customs officials launched an operation at Mimar Shopping Mall to seize smuggled clothing.
According to police, several shopkeepers resisted the action and resorted to aerial firing, triggering panic in the area.
Rescue officials from Chhipa said one person, identified as Sharaf Masih, was injured during the exchange of fire and was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.
A heavy contingent of police and Sindh Rangers surrounded the area to maintain law and order during the raid.
Meanwhile, traders staged a protest near Tariq Road signal, setting fire to debris and blocking traffic in response to the operation.
Police officials confirmed that the raid was conducted to recover smuggled goods and said additional personnel were called in to control the situation.
