Millions of Americans are facing major travel disruptions as powerful winter weather sweeps across the country ahead of Thanksgiving. Cold temperatures, strong winds and heavy snow are expected to slow down road and air travel during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.
Forecasters warn that up to 2 feet of snow could hit the Upper Midwest, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and potentially grounding flights. In addition, more than 52 million people are under wind alerts stretching from the Plains to the Great Lakes and into the Appalachians, including major cities like Chicago and Detroit.
Wind gusts could reach 60 mph in the alert zones, raising concerns about flight delays, power outages and dangerous travel. Blizzard warnings have been issued for northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where whiteout conditions are likely.
Meanwhile, areas east of lakes Erie and Ontario are under lake-effect snow warnings, with forecasters expecting intense snowfall bands that could make travel extremely difficult. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and expect significant delays.
