Hawley revealed that instead of resuming immediately after the kidnapping, the Season 9 premiere will feature a narrative time jump of one to two weeks, plunging Mid-Wilshire precinct straight into an intense, high-stakes rescue operation packed with romance, emotion, and heavy action.
The upcoming season will see the team face off against antagonist Heath Everett (Jeffrey Vincent Parise), though Hawley teased that Everett is secretly backed by a mysterious, string-pulling “right-hand person” who poses a broader threat to the precinct. To help fans endure the multi-month wait, ABC and Hulu took the unprecedented step of releasing an extended cut of Season 8, Episode 10 (“His Name Was Martin”), restoring five and a half minutes of deleted footage. This special release features a foreboding deleted scene between Tim and Lucy, alongside an expanded suspense sequence involving Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox).
