Islamabad: Mild tremors were felt in several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday morning, causing residents to rush out of their homes in panic.

According to the seismic monitoring center, the earthquake measured 3.7 on the Richter scale with a depth of 25 kilometers beneath the surface. The epicenter was located about 34 kilometers southwest of Skardu.

Tremors were reported in Gilgit, Skardu, Astore, and nearby areas. Locals said the shocks lasted only a few seconds but created fear among the people.

So far, no casualties or significant damage have been reported. Authorities, however, have put monitoring teams on alert to assess the situation.

Experts note that the region often experiences low-intensity earthquakes, but stress that residents should remain cautious and follow safety guidelines.
