Two cornea transplants were carried out through posthumous donation at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Karachi.

‎According to a spokesperson, 17 year old Sher Ali had donated his eye corneas after his death.

‎The spokesperson said Sher Ali was brought to SIUT after suffering a rupture of a brain artery. With the consent of the family, Sher Ali’s corneas were donated to two patients on January 7, restoring the vision of a 45 year old and a 21 year old patient.

‎According to the spokesperson, Professor Adeeb Rizvi paid tribute to Sher Ali’s family.

‎Professor Adeeb Rizvi said that thinking of others is the highest form of humanity and urged more people to become part of the organ donation movement.

‎The spokesperson said the late Sher Ali had a deep association with SIUT. At the age of 8, his mother had donated a kidney to him.

‎According to the spokesperson, the donated kidney functioned well for ten years. Sher Ali later developed kidney disease again and was on dialysis. Sher Ali’s father had also donated a kidney to his nephew in the past.
