Two new polio cases have been reported simultaneously from two districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tank and North Waziristan.
According to details, the number of polio cases in the province this year has reached 15. The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad has confirmed the detection of two new cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The virus was confirmed in a 16 month old girl from Union Council Mula Zai in Tank district and a two year old girl from Union Council Miran Shah in North Waziristan district.
Thus, the total number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year has reached 15, including three each from Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and North Waziristan, and one each from Torghar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Lower Kohistan districts.
This brings the total number of polio cases reported across the country this year to 23. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tops the list with 15 cases, followed by Sindh with six, and Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan with one case each.
Meanwhile, a five day anti polio campaign will start in Peshawar on September 1st. Preparations under the Divisional Task Force for the campaign have been completed.
Deputy Commissioners of Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, the tribal district Mohmand, and Khyber district have been directed to personally monitor the polio campaign.
Commissioner Peshawar stated that foolproof security arrangements for polio teams and all possible resources would be utilized to ensure the success of the campaign.
