KARACHI —
Two men were shot dead when unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on a shop near Nagan Chowrangi, police said on Monday.
According to initial reports, two armed men riding a motorcycle fired multiple rounds at a prayer mat shop located near Siddique Akbar Mosque, Bab Arif, in the Nagan Chowrangi area. As a result, 30-year-old Shah Ahmed and 30-year-old Abu Bakar died on the spot.
Rescue officials and police reached the scene soon after the incident and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital. The Crime Scene Unit collected forensic evidence, including eight spent 9mm bullet casings, which have been sent to the forensic laboratory for analysis.
According to Central District SSP Syed Waqar Ali, both attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Police said that Shah Ahmed, a native of Gilgit, owned the shop, while Abu Bakar, a resident of Karachi, worked with him. Both men lived in North Nazimabad Block L, Arafat Town.
Authorities are investigating whether the attack was sectarian in nature or motivated by personal enmity. The case remains under investigation as law enforcement intensifies efforts to trace the perpetrators.
