PATTAYA — Former two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury secured a dominant seventh-round technical knockout (TKO) victory over Poland’s 46-year-old veteran Mariusz Wach on Friday, edging closer to a massive potential clash with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua. Fighting in front of a restricted crowd of 1,500 spectators in the Thai resort city of Pattaya, the 37-year-old Fury systematically outclassed Wach in an untelevised bout. The victory marks Fury’s second consecutive win since returning from a 16-month competitive lay-off, shifting the spotlight entirely onto Joshua’s highly anticipated weekend encounter.
Despite setting the stage for the long-awaited all-British blockbuster, Fury expressed heavy skepticism regarding whether Joshua would ultimately agree to step into the ring with him, recalling past missed opportunities at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 36-year-old Joshua is scheduled to face Albania’s Kristian Prenga on Saturday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This bout marks Joshua’s emotional return to professional boxing following a December car crash in Nigeria that tragically claimed the lives of two close friends, as well as his first fight since a devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. Dismissing rumors of a post-fight face-off in Jeddah, Fury confirmed he is flying directly home to his family while hoping the mega-fight contracts are finalized next week.
