Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has stormed into the final of the World Athletics Championships 2025 after delivering a massive 85.28-metre throw in his third attempt during the qualification round in Tokyo on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old had a shaky start, recording 76.99m on his first throw and 74.17m on the second. But with pressure mounting, Arshad produced his season’s best on the third attempt, comfortably surpassing the automatic qualifying mark of 84.50m to secure his place in the final.

This qualification not only marked his return to peak form after injury concerns earlier this year but also reaffirmed his status as one of the top contenders on the global stage. His 85.28m effort was enough to put him among the leading athletes from Group B.

Arshad, who made history by winning Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic athletics medal in Paris 2024, has been carrying the hopes of millions back home. His progress into the final has sparked a wave of celebration across Pakistan, with fans hailing him as the nation’s brightest athletic star.

The final of the men’s javelin throw will feature some of the world’s best, including Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra of India, setting up yet another highly anticipated clash between the two South Asian rivals.

Arshad will now look to push beyond his personal best and target the 90-metre mark, a milestone he has long set his sights on. If he can replicate or better his qualifying performance, Pakistan may once again be in line for global glory.
