The University of Karachi has prohibited all teaching and non-teaching employees from sharing university-related information and official documents on social media without prior approval from the relevant authority.
The directive was issued through a notification by Registrar Dr Imran Ahmed Siddiqui after the administration observed that official letters and office orders were being circulated in social media groups without permission. These documents reportedly included information about employee transfers, postings, additional charges and suspensions.
Under the new instructions, staff members cannot upload or forward official documents or university-related information on social media platforms without obtaining prior approval. They are also prohibited from sharing such material with unauthorised individuals.
The university administration has warned that violations will be taken seriously and may result in disciplinary action under applicable rules, including Rule 18 of the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1964.
The notification further states that information intended for public release will be shared through the university’s official social media pages or other authorised channels.
The directive aims to regulate the circulation of official university information and ensure that institutional documents are shared only through approved procedures.
