The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across parts of the UK as a band of heavy rain and gusty winds sweeps in on Tuesday.
Areas under warning include south-west Scotland, southern Wales, south-west England and Northern Ireland, where rainfall of 20,40 mm or up to 60 mm in the wettest spots is expected. In southern Wales, totals of 30-50 mm are forecast, and in Northern Ireland around 20-30 mm, possibly more on high ground.
Winds will strengthen too, particularly along exposed coasts and hills, with southern areas likely to feel southerly gusts.
In Scotland, cooler air is moving in from the north, leading to overnight temperatures below freezing and the possibility of snow on higher ground by Wednesday night.
For commuters and the public, the Met Office warns of potential for flooding, spray on roads, longer journey times and possibly short term power interruptions.
