KARACHI: In a sensational display of batting, Usman Khan powered Sahir Associates to a thrilling win over Ghani Glass in the third-round fixture of the President’s Cup Grade-I at the Oval Academy Ground on Friday.
Chasing a massive target of 328 runs, Sahir Associates completed the chase with 79 balls to spare, thanks to an astonishing 275-run partnership between Usman Khan and Mohammed Faiq.
Usman Khan remained unbeaten on 155 off just 98 balls, striking 16 fours and eight sixes, while Faiq contributed a majestic 108 not out, facing 76 deliveries and hitting 10 fours and three sixes. The duo’s onslaught kept the Ghani Glass bowlers under constant pressure, smashing a combined total of 11 sixes. Faiq had joined Usman when the team was struggling at 55-2, and together they completely turned the game in Sahir Associates’ favor.
Earlier, Ghani Glass had gained momentum thanks to Mohsin Riaz’s maiden List A century. Riaz scored 141 off 104 balls, hitting eight fours and eight sixes, and shared a crucial 129-run fifth-wicket partnership with Tayyab Tahir, who added 65 off 58 balls. Their efforts propelled Ghani Glass from 125-4 in 28 overs to a competitive total of 254-5 in 45.2 overs.
However, the heroics of Usman Khan and Faiq ensured that Sahir Associates chased down the target with ease, marking one of the most memorable innings of the President’s Cup so far.
