Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor has broken her silence over the stalled release of Abeer Gulal, her much-anticipated cross-border film with Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan, following a ban prompted by heightened political tensions between India and Pakistan.
In a recent interview with Indian media, Kapoor shared her disappointment over the ban and clarified the context in which the film was produced. “When we were shooting Abeer Gulal, the political atmosphere was stable,” she explained. “The filmmakers obtained all the necessary legal permissions for its release.”
However, as relations between the two countries deteriorated, the decision was made to halt the release out of sensitivity toward public sentiment. “We respected both governments and the emotions of the people,” Kapoor added. “We never wanted the film to offend anyone.”
Kapoor emphasized that Abeer Gulal is not a political film but a love story with a message of unity. “There is nothing in this film that could hurt anyone’s sentiments. It was made with love, and for love.”
The romantic drama, which features Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles, became a casualty of escalating Indo-Pak tensions. Though shelved for now, fans across borders continue to await news of its potential release.
