Islamabad — A video showing alleged deductions from payments under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage and prompting an immediate response from the authorities.
In the viral footage, beneficiaries can be seen complaining about unauthorized cuts being made from their entitled amounts by agents at payment centers. The incident has raised serious questions about transparency and monitoring mechanisms within the social welfare scheme.
BISP officials have taken notice of the situation and assured that an inquiry has been launched to identify those involved in the malpractice. “No deductions are allowed under the programme — strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” a BISP spokesperson stated.
The Benazir Income Support Programme, a key social safety net in Pakistan, provides financial aid to millions of low-income families, and any misuse of funds has often triggered strong public reaction in the past.
