New Jersey is preparing for the possibility of its first widespread snowfall of the season as a winter storm approaches early next week. According to the National Weather Service, parts of the state could see snow, a wintry mix, or a transition to rain depending on location. Coastal areas along the Jersey Shore are likely to begin with snow and then shift to rain, while inland regions may experience snow changing to a rain–snow mix.

Forecasters emphasize that the storm’s impact largely depends on its track, which remains highly uncertain. Areas northwest of the I-95 corridor  especially near and north of I-78  hold the greatest potential for meaningful snowfall if colder air remains in place. Weather models currently differ on the storm’s speed and strength, with some showing a coastal track that would bring warmer, rainier conditions and others projecting an offshore track favoring more snow.

Before the storm arrives, New Jersey is experiencing a cold and windy Black Friday. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, bringing wind chills down into the 20s and 30s. Temperatures across the state will struggle to rise above the low 40s, and isolated snow showers may occur in northwestern areas, though no accumulation is expected.

The weekend forecast includes calmer weather on Saturday as high pressure settles in, with highs in the low 40s and lighter winds. By Sunday, conditions will turn unsettled again as a warm front moves in, bringing periods of light rain during the afternoon and evening under overcast and breezy skies.
