A winter storm expected on Tuesday could bring 1 to 4 inches of snow to northern New Jersey, while central parts of the state may see a quick switch from snow to rain. Southern counties are forecast to receive mostly heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say the storm will begin early Tuesday as snow before transitioning to rain in central regions, creating a messy morning commute. However, a slight shift in the storm’s track could change snowfall totals, and confidence in exact amounts remains low.
Higher elevations in northwestern New Jersey could see between 4 and 8 inches of snow, with snowfall rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour. Areas south and west of the I-95 corridor are expected to receive less than 1 inch.
Rain will start developing across the state on Sunday, followed by dry conditions on Monday. Temperatures will drop significantly mid-week as high pressure builds back in, and another storm system may affect the region next weekend, though details remain uncertain.
