RAWALPINDI – A tragic incident was reported in Quaid-e-Azam Colony, Dhamial police limits, where a woman allegedly lost her life after being set on fire during a domestic dispute.

According to police, the victim, identified as Shazia Farooq, was initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries a day later. Her son, Shabbir Bhatti, lodged an FIR accusing his aunt, Hajra Adeel, of deliberately setting his mother ablaze following ongoing family quarrels.

Police officials stated that the case was first reported as an accident caused by a compressor blast, but statements from the victim’s daughter, Dr. Nimra, and further investigation revealed signs of foul play. Neighbors informed authorities after hearing screams, upon which Shazia was found severely burnt inside the house.

Investigators collected evidence from the scene, noting that the kitchen and rooms were unharmed while burn marks were found only in the entryway. Initially registered as an attempted murder case, the FIR has now been amended to include Section 302 after the victim’s death. Police confirmed that the investigation is underway and arrests are expected soon
