world is marking World Television Day today, November 21, highlighting the enduring impact of TV as one of the most accessible and influential media platforms globally. According to the United Nations, television continues to play a vital role in delivering information, shaping public opinion, promoting awareness, and encouraging global dialogue.

The UN declared November 21 as World Television Day in 1996, following the World Television Forum held on the same date, where international experts recognized TV’s significant contribution to peace, development, and public communication.

For decades, television has brought wars, crises, human stories, weather updates, politics, and global developments into the homes of millions within seconds. Even with the rise of digital platforms, TV’s influence remains strong—now further expanded through smart screens, mobile applications, and streaming services.

In Pakistan, television has played a decisive role in shaping the media landscape. From natural disasters to political developments and national events, TV channels have provided real-time guidance and essential information to the public. During earthquakes, floods, and emergencies, television broadcasts helped save thousands of lives by delivering timely alerts and updates.

Television has also remained a major source of entertainment. Dramas, films, special transmissions, sports coverage, and cultural programs have brought people together and sparked nationwide discussions.

Experts say television is more than a device—it serves as a “window to the world,” bringing global experiences, emotions, and stories directly into our homes. The United Nations emphasizes that TV continues to support peace, education, awareness, and international understanding.
