Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has announced that girls aged 9 years in the province will be given the cervical cancer prevention vaccine.

Speaking on Geo News’ program Geo Pakistan, she said that this vaccine is not available in the private sector. In every country, the cervical cancer prevention vaccine is available for girls above the age of 9.

New COVID-19 variant not as dangerous, says Sindh Health Minister

She further explained that the government is working with the education department on a plan to administer the vaccine to 9-year-old girls entering the new academic session. A single dose of the cervical cancer vaccine is sufficient, which has also been confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The vaccine can also be administered to girls above the age of 15.

Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho added that preparations have already been made to deal with potential outbreaks of diseases in flood-affected areas. Adequate stock of medicines, including those for typhoid and other infectious diseases, has been distributed at the district level.
