‎Karachi: Two house officers at Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have shown suspected symptoms of the Congo virus after treating an infected patient last week.

‎According to hospital sources, the doctors provided medical assistance to a Congo virus patient who was later shifted to the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital, where he passed away during treatment on June 19.

‎Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital, Dr. Shahid Rasool, confirmed that both doctors are experiencing high fever and abdominal pain. One of them is in home isolation, while the other has been admitted and isolated in the hospital’s Medical ICU.

‎Dr. Shahid Rasool further stated that one of the doctors is showing almost 90% of the Congo virus symptoms. Alarmingly, both doctors developed symptoms just a day after treating the patient. PCR test samples have been sent to the lab, and the Congo virus reports are expected by Monday.

‎‎In response to the situation, a special fever desk has been set up in the hospital’s emergency department. However, the hospital lacks the capacity for large-scale isolation units. Dr. Rasool said that they will follow the Health Department’s directives regarding the establishment of a proper isolation unit.
